BOCAS DEL TORO |
| |
Connected
to the rest of Isla Colón by a narrow causeway, the provincial capital
of BOCAS DEL TORO is by far the best base from which to explore the
islands, beaches and reefs of the archipelago, and also a charming place
in its own right, with rickety wooden buildings painted in faded pastels,
and a friendly and laid-back English-speaking population. There's
nothing much to see, but that's hardly a problem - after a hard day in
the sea and sun there's no better place to chill out with a cool drink,
while the sun sets behind the forest-covered mountains of the mainland
and the air fills with delicious cooking smells and the sound of calypso.
